I had the most incredible birthday dinner with my partner last night. ❤️ The restaurant was completely booked out for dinner, but I managed to find a 3:30 pm table available, so I grabbed it straight away—and I'm so glad I did! Everything was absolutely amazing. The steak was one of the best I've had in a long time—perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and full of flavor. The food was outstanding, and the staff looked after us so well, making the whole experience even more special. I truly loved every moment of it. A birthday dinner I'll always remember. 🥂🎂✨
The atmosphere and aesthetics of this restaurant is the highlight. Service was fine and it was nice of them to give you a scoop of vanilla ice cream as we were celebrating a birthday. But the most important part of a dining experience - the food was average. Nothing great nothing bad. The bite sized scallops with croquettes were tiny, the scallop looks like it’s been sliced in half, can’t taste much of it. The sourdough and butter which you usually would get at most restaurants, didn’t taste anything different from ones you could get from supermarkets. The duck breast in the entree dish was cooked well and very tender. T-bone steak was good but for the price you pay at this restaurant there are much other better options.
We chose Gimlet to celebrate our anniversary during our trip to Melbourne, but unfortunately, the floor service left us feeling incredibly disappointed. First of all, the receptionist was nice and warmly wished us a "happy anniversary" when we arrived. However, once we were seated, the experience went downhill. The pacing of the meal was incredibly slow and poorly managed. Our reservation was at 9:00pm, but we didn’t get to eat our main dish until 11:00pm. Throughout this long wait, the service felt completely cold and dismissive. We noticed a stark contrast in how the floor staff treated us compared to the tables around us, they were visibly warm and attentive to local diners, while we felt ignored. Every time we politely said "thank you" to the staff, we received absolutely no response. At one point, we waited for 10 minutes just trying to get a staff member's attention to help take a photo for our anniversary, but no one realized we needed assistance or even looked our way. As travelers celebrating a special milestone, it was deeply uncomfortable to feel sidelined and treated like second-class citizens in a restaurant of this caliber. While the venue is beautiful, true hospitality means making every guest feel welcome. The lack of basic warmth and attentiveness completely ruined our anniversary celebration.
First day off in months and I decided to remind myself what truely good food is. Not overly pretentious, just perfect matching. I tried the autumn menu. That first little bite was truely exquisite. And tuna so tender it literally melts in your mouth. Lovely level of acidity on the salad and omg that sauce with the beef is to die for. And all great things eventually come to an end but not be for a spectacular combo of a sweet muscat coupled with desert balanced so finely as to be dreamt about for months. And what better way to finish than on a long black. It’s been a long time since I have been reminded what truely good food really is. The service was fine tuned and perfect, great suggestions, friendly without being invasive or pushy. Just how it should be. I couldn’t fault a single thing. Highly recommend.
Élégant, expensive and happening place in CBD. Must reserve ahead. Grilled fish was delicious ($180 for 2 people) and were the mini-financiers for dessert. We sat at the bar and the bartenders took good care of us. We enjoyed the experience tho it was a bit pricy.
